Ried Kogelberg

The Zöbinger Kogelberg is a foothill of the Waldviertel high plateau and forms a broad north-south ridge with the Friedenskreuz and the slope to the village of Zöbing to the south-east. The south-facing slope is divided into terraces and the large temperature differences between extreme sunshine during the day and the fresh Waldviertel night promote the fine fruitiness of the wine. Crystalline rocks (primary rocks), predominantly mica schist and amphibolite, form the bedrock.

The attractive nose of orange blossom and pepper pulls you into this ripe and powerful gruner veltliner that makes a bold statement on the creamy palate. Soft and gentle finish for a dry white with this much power. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

James Suckling Review September 2022

2021 Grüner Veltliner Ried Kogelberg Terrassen DAC Reserve 1ÖTW Erste Lage

Delicate floral scent, coniferous forest, tangerines and the dark, broken stone character of the vineyard; builds beautifully with rich fruit fullness of orange cake, a pinch of bergamot and some spicy tobacco; stately foundation, tightly meshed, at the same time complex and clear as a bell; great length.

Medium yellow-green, silver reflections. Delicate tobacco spice, ripe pear fruit, hints of fennel, blossom honey and candied orange zest. Juicy, good complexity, fresh acid structure, mineral-salty, fresh apple fruit on the finish, sticks well, versatile, has potential.
