Wine year 2002

The winter of 2002 was relatively mild and dry. This was followed by a friendly, dry spring with early budding and problem-free flowering at the end of May. After a few hot days in June, a warm July interspersed with thunderstorms gave the grapes a head start in ripening, which was abruptly interrupted by the flood disaster in August. Almost all wine-growing regions were under pressure from rot, and the incredible amounts of water caused sometimes devastating damage in the Wachau, Kamptal and Kremstal. The prerequisite for quality was meticulous pre-picking to remove rotten berries and grapes, which resulted in harvest losses.
